Inter will be aiming to extend an unbeaten streak spanning 20 years when they travel to Torino for their Serie A opener on Sunday.
While only three points separated fifth-placed Inter and surprise packets Torino last season, Walter Mazzarri s men boast a significant edge, having not lost to the Turin-based outfit in 20 matches.
Inter have won 14 games and drawn six during that period, with their last defeat to Torino coming in the form of a 2-0 loss in February 1994.
And Inter make the trip to the Stadio Olimpico di Torino full of confidence following their 6-0 rout of Iceland s Stjarnan in the UEFA Europa League play-offs on Thursday.
Croatia international Mateo Kovacic netted a hat-trick, while striker Mauro Icardi scored twice as Inter kept their fifth…
Jean Fernandez has stepped down from his role as Auxerre manager after five years at the helm of the Ligue 1 outfit.
The 56-year-old took the club to ninth place in the league last season a disappointment after finishing third the campaign before.
Fernandez s contract ran out at the end of the 2010/11 season and he has decided against seeking reappointment.
Fernandez won the award for France s best coach in 2009/10, and he told French newspaper l Yonne Republicaine he was sad to be leaving a club where he had many happy memories.
I made my decision on Wednesday night. I decided to leave and turn the page at AJ Auxerre, he said.
This choice was difficult. I was reluctant, because I cannot erase five years of my life like that.
Deciding…
Chinese retailer Suning Holdings Group have announced they will take a majority control of Serie A giants Inter.
The group have purchased a 70 per cent stake in the club from Erick Thohir, who became majority shareholder and president of Inter in 2013, for a reported fee of €270million.
Suning s deal was announced on Sunday via the social media pages of Super League outfit Jiangsu Suning, before confirmation of the deal came at a news conference held on Monday.
Zhang Jidong, chairman of the Suning group, welcomed the deal as a watershed moment for a growing football market in China.
Ours is an international business and our brand will soon be big in Europe, too. Now we have an alliance with an international and European top club. Football is growin…
Germany ended a 21-year wait for a win over Italy as they scored two goals in each half to record a resounding 4-1 triumph in Munich on Tuesday.
Having thrown away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to England on Saturday, Joachim Low s side bounced back in style to end a seven-match winless streak against their opponents.
Toni Kroos scored his second international goal in as many matches when his right-footed attempt from just outside the area broke the deadlock in the 24th minute.
Mario Gotze headed in his 17th goal for Germany on the stroke of half-time, while any fears the hosts might suffer another second-half collapse disappeared when full-back Jonas Hector broke his duck for the national team just before the hour mark.
Mesut Ozil made it 4-0 from the s…
Australia coach Graham Arnold is confident there is nothing new Syria boss Fajr Ibrahim can do to catch the Socceroos by surprise in their crucial 2019 Asian Cup Group B encounter on Tuesday.
Syria sacked Bernd Stange following Thursday s 2-0 defeat to Jordan, appointing Ibrahim for a fourth term at the helm shortly after.
Ibrahim takes over ahead of their final group game at the tournament, with Syria – who are yet to score – in danger of bowing out.
By contrast, defending champions Australia need just a point to make sure of progression, having responded to their shock opening defeat to Jordan by beating Palestine 3-0.
Syria will be hoping a change of coach can inspire an improvement in their fortunes, but Arnold doubts there is much Ib…
Shinji Okazaki scored inside 52 seconds as Leicester City got their Premier League campaign up and running at the second attempt with a 2-0 home success against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
Two late strikes at Arsenal on the opening day had the 2015-16 champions on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller, but this time the result never looked in doubt after a goal in the game s first attack, and Harry Maguire later headed a second.
Brighton barely laid a glove on Manchester City in their Premier League debut another 2-0 defeat and they again lacked the firepower to respond after Okazaki s opener at the King Power Stadium.
The Japan international s tap-in owed much to Mat Ryan s generous goalkeeping and the lead suited a well-versed Leicester game plan as…

In a showdown between two sides who will find the moods in their camps at a high, Bayern Munich will host Freiburg on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Bayern Munich might have been left stunned by their thumping defeat away at Borussia Mönchengladbach last month, the German heavyweights have bounced back in some style. Managing to book their spot in the knockout stage of this year s Champions League in midweek as they secured an action-packed 5-2 win against Benfica on home soil, Head Coach Julian Nagelsmann has seen his side gain a reputation for their lively outcomes. Bagging over 3.5 goals in five of their last six outings across all formats, the former RB Leipzig boss will still have a headache over…
After another electric evening of Euro 2020 football, we officially know the identity of our first two semi-finalists with Spain being one of them. They were forced to really dig deep in what was, ultimately, a pretty dramatic game against the Swiss.
In the end, though, a penalty shootout was enough for the Spaniards to see off the challenge of the underdogs.
Spanish questions
There are some big questions surrounding this Spanish national team and it all stems from their inconsistency. There are times when they look like one of the best attacking teams in the world but on other occasions, all they do is play the ball back and forth without much of an impetus to their game. If they want to cause Italy problems and they re serious about making a real run to the final, th…
Hundreds of fans marched in Hannover in honour of goalkeeper Robert Enke on Thursday, on the second anniversary his tragic death.
Around 300 people gathered to march from downtown Hannover to the AWD-Arena, where they laid flowers and lit candles in remembrance of the player who served the Bundesliga club from 2004 to 2009.
Capped eight times by Germany, Enke committed suicide on November 10, 2009 after a battle with depression.
In the former Barcelona goalkeeper s memory, the Robert Enke Foundation was established by Hannover, the DFB (the German Football Association) and DFL (the German Football League) to raise money to combat depression and heart disease.

Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has revealed that there is an agreement in place to sign Juventus striker Amauri.
Amauri said on Wednesday that he hoped a deal could be finalised quickly and Corvino has indicated that the 31-year-old will join Fiorentina.
There is an agreement between Fiorentina and Juventus, the only things missing are the player s signature and his medical, Corvino confirmed.
He had some personal problems, which forced him to be with his family.
The former Palermo striker who signed for Juventus in 2008 will fill the void created by the departure of Alberto Gilardino to Genoa earlier this month.
